Are you experiencing New Beginnings? Maybe it’s a new job, a new career, a new relationship, or like me – a new direction in business. Do you want to know how to navigate your new beginnings so you can reap optimal benefits?
I love this quote:
“The three Cs in life: choice, chance, change. You must make the choice to take the chance if you want anything in life to change.” — Unknown
So, here I am again on the edge of a new beginning. Being an entrepreneur for well over a decade has shown me one thing for sure – things change. As the quote says, “you must make the choice to take the chance if you want anything in life to change”, that’s true in business also. What I love most about this quote is it starts with making a choice. The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that we get to make choices.
As I embark on the third iteration of my business, I’m excited that I get to make new choices for a new beginning. The first step we must all take to navigate new beginnings is to make a choice or decide on exactly what we want. I’ll explain more about how to do that.
In this article, I will share four keys to help you navigate your new beginnings.
Here are the four keys:
1. Decide on what you want
2. Start where you are
3. Use what you have
4. Do what you can
1. Decide on what you want
When we’re faced with new beginnings, we have unlimited options available to us. It’s almost like saying you want to travel to an exciting place – there are a zillion exciting places on this planet, where do you want to go is the question.
If you don’t decide on where you want to go, you won’t know the direction to start your journey and you won’t know when you arrive.
If you’re multi-passionate or multi-talented, just decide on which area you want to pursue first. I teach my clients to focus on one area or passion at a time. You can always add on new things after you master the ONE thing.
2. Start where you are
There’s a tendency to think that when we are starting a new beginning we’re also starting over from scratch, this is not true. It took me a minute to get over this feeling and move forward.
The truth is, you’re starting with all the knowledge and experience you already have. Plus, you’re starting with YOU – the most important thing you could have and all you need to begin.
You can’t start anywhere else but where you are. Don’t waste time wishing you were someone else, so that you could start from where they are starting, that will just make you feel bad about yourself and will just become time you later regret wasting. The only place to start is where you are. It makes beginning really easy!
3. Use what you have
We are always tempted to focus on what we need instead of what we have. You have more resources at your fingertips than you know. We all do. Another don’t – don’t spend time dwelling on the fact that somebody else has more resources than you or better resources, or that your resources are not what you wish they were. Truly successful people do not waste time complaining that they don’t have more. They simply use what they DO have and get going.
4. Do what you can
One of the main reasons we experience so much disappointment in our lives and burnout before we reach our goals is because we expect way too much our ourselves. We set unrealistic goals about what we can accomplish and then we wonder why we feel like such losers when we can’t do it all.
Break your goals out into manageable, bite-sized pieces, for example, quarterly, and then just implement each step to achieve your goals. All you can do is all you can do. Stop beating yourself up and find ways to enjoy the journey.
