Congratulations, you got your first paying client! I know how excited that can be. But, along with the excitement, there can also be feelings of doubt, inadequacy, and downright confusion.
I know that feeling. I remember my very first paying client. There was a flood of emotions running through my body. I was so excited and then it hit me – now what?
You might be asking yourself the same thing, “oh my, now what do I do?”
One of the best ways to ensure that you stand out from all the other coaches out there – and there are a lot of coaches out there, is to make sure you start off on the good-foot as James Brown use to say.
So, what does that mean, exactly? Well, starting off on the good-foot simply means being prepared to give your new client the best experience ever. Simply put, creating epic client experiences.
One very important thing to keep in mind is, your clients want to know and feel that they represent more than just another dollar in your bank account. They want to know that they matter.
When you create epic client experiences for your clients, you…
- You set yourself apart and give yourself a competitive advantage over other coaches
- Set the tone for creating happy clients
- You open the doors for more referrals
Here are 4 simple ways to create epic client experiences:
1. Send a personalized ‘Thank You' card. Everyone loves to receive mail.
Especially since it seems to be an ancient thing given our digital happy world. I found these cute little
blank cards in my local Michael’s Craft store. I love them because they have a “V” on them. This can represent my name or my company name. They’re blank inside so I write a personal note to my client.
2. Tell them what's going to happen next.
Your clients hired you for two main reasons; clarity and direction. Start right out the gate by giving them clear instructions.
In your welcome letter let them know the next steps: the date and time of their first session, what number to call, instructions to complete and return the coaching agreement, any actions or homework they may have from a consultation with you, and anything else you consider relevant. Spell it out. Make it clear and simple. This will make you look professional – and alleviate any fears or uncertainty the client may have.
3. Become a BOSS ‘giver'.
Not everything you offer your client has to have a monetary attachment. If your client is struggling with something and you have a quick and easy checklist or workbook that can help, give it to them at no additional charge.
This is truly a way to set yourself apart in a crowded, sometimes greedy market.
Your generosity will also create raving fans who are highly likely to refer others to you. Don't forget to send them something special for every referral you receive.
The real bonus, your clients feel that they really matter to you and that you are genuinely concerned about their well-being.
4. Have them complete a client profile form.
The client profile form should include information like their birthday. You can take it a step further and get their spouse and children’s names and birthday too.
Depending on your budget for client appreciation, you may want to at least send birthday cards not only to your client but to their family members also.
This goes a long way with your clients. It shows your human side and it positions you as a caring, heart-centered coach.
Showing that you care is an easy thing to do. Don’t overthink it. If you have a small client appreciation budget, do what you can. You don’t have to send a dozen roses to every new client – a handwritten note will show you care just as much.
Here’s to your success!
