One of the recurring questions I get from new and aspiring coaches is: “How do I stay committed to building my coaching business?”
Most people think I work ALL the time. The truth is…in the beginning I did. And occasionally I still do.
Here’s what I will tell you NOT TO DO:
- Put in hours of exhausting work
- Make yourself available 24/7 for your clients
- Waste your precious time on activities that don’t generate income…
…because in order for you to have the business and lifestyle you desire you must have money. Money is the seed and tool that allows you to have what you want.
After building my coaching business to a level of success that seemed impossible in the beginning, I’ve experienced my fair share of ups and downs during the journey. From my start as a new spiritual life coach to now an expert business coach, the one constant that remains is…
You’ve got to do your work…mostly mental/mindset work, take big-scary risks, and have the stamina to see it through in life and business.
When I first started my coaching business, one of the biggest mistakes I made was, I was doing any and every thing to make it work. The problem was, I didn’t know what “make it work” looked like or meant.
I didn’t have a vision. I knew I wanted to help women but I didn’t have a clear picture of what that looked like or meant. I also knew that I wanted to be a business owner. Again, I didn’t have a clear vision of what that looked like either.
Mistake #2, as a result of not having a vision, was I would take on any client and be available 24/7 just to make the money.
Mistake #3, I would create coaching programs for every client – every time. Talk about a lot of work.
To avoid making the same mistake I did, try this:
- Create a vision of what you want your coaching business to look like and how you want to help your clients
- Set healthy boundaries for your clients – don’t operate out of need or scarcity
- Identify your ideal client, be clear on who you serve. You can’t build a business trying to coach everyone on everything.
I’ve shared only 3 mistakes I made along this journey. There are certainly more. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping new and aspiring coaches avoid the same pitfalls. A bonus mistake I made was not asking for help – trying to figure it out on my own.
Don’t let that be you. Reach out for help, even if it’s not from me – get the help you need to move forward with your dream.
